The Sharpest Blade Shadow Reader Sandy Williams 9780425265888 Books

This book begins as soon as the previous one ends. McKenzie’s life is completely changed due to an incident in the last book. Not only her life but all of her relationships as well. Due to Kyol’s actions, everything has changed. I can’t help but wonder if it needed to though.

Aren clearly had issues accepting the life bond between McKenzie and Kyol. I think he was right in giving her space. She of course hated it but the life bond means that her and Kyol will feel each other always. How weird would that be? I mean if your ex-boyfriend could feel every emotion you feel? Like every emotion- even those that you have with your sweetheart? I can see how it would weird someone out. Plus, in his world a life-bond is extremely special.

McKenzie felt off in this book, at times just acting whiney. She does figure out what is going on. She does help the realm. I just wasn’t feeling as attached to her as I did in the first two books. Mainly, I felt that she didn’t attempt to understand the two guys in her life- Aren or Kyol.

Kyol, oh how I wanted to cry for you. Everything you have does has been done out of your sense of honor. Yet, being honorable hasn’t really paid off for you. I can imagine how you must feel loving McKenzie and yet not being with her. I don’t know how you are handling the life bond, especially the emotional side of things.

The Sharpest Blade does wrap things up and brings to the close for us the story of the Shadow Reader. I just felt that there was something missing. Not really sure what it was, just know that it wasn’t there. I enjoyed the series and do recommend it.

The Sharpest Blade Shadow Reader Sandy Williams 9780425265888 Books Reviews

Maybe I shouldn't have read all three books in a row.
Because I am unsurprised. And uninterested.

McKenzie is still a terrible fighter. Aren ignores her, and she has difficulties to live with it... So she has spent her last three weeks being normal. Well, except for that thing that happened to her in the second book.
The book was nice. But I was bored with the love interests. I guessed who was the bad guy (I didn't guess brother, I thought son. But brother works too). I missed Paige (the funniest character).
And I still can't believe how bad of a friend McKenzie is to Shane. As for Paige in the second book, she kind of forgets about him. If the same happened to Aren or Kyol, the world could have been ending, she would still look for him.
Lame person hello.
Still, waiting for the fourth.
This book really did a good job closing all the loose ends created from the previous two books.
The reason it wasn't given five stars is because I thought that it would have been nice for the Torum to be involved in settling Lena in as Queen. In the middle of the book I thought recruiting them by promising the Fae world open to them would have given her support and more arms to battle the False blood.
I was also disappointed in how much the blood bond was talked about between Kyol and Mckenzie. I have to admit that I love all the main characters in this book but wish somehow it would have been written slightly different (not the end though).
We never find out the fate of one of the main characters which is disappointed. What happened to him did he live?
Paige shows up at the very end but is talked about a lot through the book. I was kind of glad to see her take a back seat because she was my least favorite character in the second book.
This book and trilogy is by far one of my favorite trilogy love triangles. I really enjoyed reading it and will forever be in love with Aren.
If you are reading these reviews you will not be disappointed in these books. Sandy is creative and makes you connect and love all of the main characters which you look for in this book.
The ending leaves a lot of characters paths unanswered and my mind has created happy endings for all of them. Especially Naito who is a great character.
Sad to see the trilogy end but can't wait to see what Sandy creates next.
I had the ridiculously awesome privilege of beta reading this book for Sandy last year and the final product is just as amazing as the rough product was. I've been a huge fan of this series from the start and I am so glad that each book went from awesome to amazing. It is so fresh and new, especially in a genre that is pretty full of the same old stuff.

McKenzie is one of my favorite urban fantasy heroines and I grew to love her even more as every book progressed. She’s sassy and tough and I loved the way she grew throughout the series. There were some fantastic moments where she stood up for herself and did things that the original McKenzie probably would have thought twice about. And don't even get me started on the men in her life. Kyol and Aren are so fantastic, of course, though I have a major soft spot for Aren, which made this book heartbreaking at times. The rest of the cast of characters were always great and that didn’t stop with this book. I would love to see a follow up with Kynlee as the main character…a novella or something; anything to revisit this world at least for a brief period of time.

The end of this book, which is also the end of the series, has to be one of the most satisfying endings I've ever read. This will go down as one of my favorite series and I will definitely re-read it as often as I can. Sandy Williams has a fan in me and I can’t wait to read what she writes next.

Arc provided via Netgalley for an honest review. I also purchased the book in paperback.
