I love the entire series. Katie MacAlister writes funny, honest, well rounded characters that pull you into the story. Ashling and Jim keep you laughing, and Ash's heat and love with Drake is smokin. I've read the series several times and will continue to re-read it in the future.

This is book 4 in a series. You really need to read the first 3, in order, before you tackle this one. Fascinating series, quite imaginative, well-drawn characters.
SPOILER ALERT ...This series is as exciting as it is funny a perfect balance of both. I was about to give up on them getting married but I was pleasantly surprised at the end and it happened just as it should have now that I think about it. Can't wait to read the next in the series.
I have read many books by Katie MacAlister and "Holy Smokes" is one of my favorites. The story of Aisling and Drake's courtship and marriage would make a great movie because it is funny ans sweet. Jim is a great addition to the story and it has a great sarcastic wit that makes you want to giggle and growl at the same time. The additional cast of characters are creatively integrated in the story and it made me sad to reach the last pages. I wish the story had been longer.
Kudos to Katie for another home run. Keep those stories coming!
I just finished the fourth book in the series...WOW. I hope and pray there will be more. The original characters continued in each book (both the good and the evil) to the point you felt like you knew them personally. There are few series where I have found successive books just as good as the first. Well done...and Thank You!!!
While I'm not quite half-way through, I've lost interest because this fourth installment has just gotten plain silly to the point I find myself being irritated instead of charmed and entertained as I was in the first three. Aisling and her cohorts are running around like monkeys on speed, from one catastrophe to another....characters are popping in and out like rabbits....it is exhausting and, for me, very poor story-telling. I know they're going to get married, have a baby......by now, I simply don't care how the rest of it resolves because I'll have to wade through too much nonsense to get to it. A real disappointment because I loved the first three books.
I enojoyed all 4 books but have to admit that I often got lost with understanding all the Dragon and Otherworld rules. Be prepared for a wild ride and just when you think you can take a breath, Ashling gets in another sitcky situation. Have read or listened to several KM books and will continue. What kept me coming back for more was the fact that I just LOVE Jim. He made the series and I kept forgetting that he wasn't really just a sassy mouthed dog and of course got ticked at how he was treated at times. Ashling and Drake got on my nerves but they are still likable for the most part. However...not sure I would have ever spoken to Drake again after his sept enacted their punishment against Ashling. Maybe that's just me. Will start on the Silver Dragons in hopes of Jim being a part.
Yes!!! Yet another hit by Katie!! I LOVE this series (as much as her wildy entertaining vampire series). It's fun and funny, has plot twists and turns, very sexy guys and great love scenes, great villains (and such a variety!), and don't forget snarky Jim. Katie is able to sustain a series without having it droop like some authors. I love that Aisling (pronounced Ash-ling) doesn't have a clue about her powers or Otherworld social practices, but plows her way through; and also that Drake, although very protective--especially in this book--doesn't always come to her rescue, but rather she often rescues herself. My only regret is that the next installment isn't due out until a year from now. If you like paranormal romances, you will love this series. All of the books in the series are "keepers."
